Marinel Gerritsen held the Christine Mohrmann chair at the Radboud University from 2000 to 2014. She was a full professor for Intercultural Business Communication from a sociolinguistic perspective at the Department of Business Communication Studies. Prior to this she held positions as senior researcher and lecturer at a number of universities (Amsterdam, Leiden, Tours (France), Utrecht, Nijmegen) and the Meertens Institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. She also worked for the government and for several multinational organisations in the Netherlands, France, Italy and Germany. She received her PhD in Sociolinguistics from the University of Leiden in 1987. She was educated in linguistics at the Universities of Angers (France), Leiden, Amsterdam and Nijmegen. Her current research interests include the differences between cultures in communication and in use and appreciation of communication media and the impact that this has on intercultural communication, the use of English as a lingua franca in business contexts, and the interface between English as an international language and the local languages in use.
